The Ever-Changing Forth: A Photographer’s Playground

The Forth Bridges are a place I keep coming back to. No matter how many times I stand on the shore with my camera, the view is never the same. This collection is a result of random visits over years, capturing the bridges through different seasons, shifting weather, and the transition from day to night.

Shifting Moods

From the industrial glow of the bridges at night to the soft light of a misty morning, the atmosphere here is constantly evolving. The Scottish weather ensures that the "mood" of the water and steel changes by the minute.

The Wind’s Signature: One of my favourite shots isn't of the steel at all, but this tree. Its branches grow entirely horizontally—a living record of the relentless wind that sweeps through the Firth

The One That Got Away: Photography is often about timing. Last winter, while driving to the bridges, I witnessed some incredible "god rays" breaking through the clouds to illuminate the side of the Queensferry Crossing. It was the perfect shot, but by the time I was parked and ran back down the road, the light had shifted. It’s the missed moments like those that keep me coming back.

To Be Continued...

Every time I leave, driving over these bridges, I’m always looking back and planning my return. The Forth hasn't shown me everything yet, so stay tuned for more photos in the future as I continue to chase that perfect light.
